Podcasting is all of the talk right now. It is the latest buzz in blogosphere. Never before can you reach an audience through a podcast that you’d ever get in your web site, blog or articles.

Several studies from early adopters have proven that podcast actually increase sales. Even in a market where competition is harse, a staggering 10% sales conversion from podcast is not unheard of.

Podcasting for Everyone

I don’t care which business or niche markets you are targeting, podcasting can help and is the way of the future. In fact, if you browse any podcast directory there are growing numbers of new shows every day in any topic you can possibly imagine.

Don’t miss the boat, now is the time to start. Current technology allows every one with a PC (or Mac) and internet connection to podcast in as few as 3 steps (7 minutes or less).

To start your own podcast, you’ll need:

A computer
An internet connection
Sound card
A microphone

On a PC based computer and Windows installed, you can have Sound Recorder records narration for you. More advanced application for example is Audacity, which you can download and install at no cost. Mac users have similar application for free.

3 Steps to Your First Podcast

Step 1. Record your voice. Add background music to the audio if you feel appropriate and have the right tool. You can talk for one minute to a few hours on one show.

You also can record your voice by calling a phone number specially designed for online publishing. Two examples of such tools are AudioBlogger and Audio Generator. The former is free but limited to 5 minutes of recording length. The latter requires you to register and pay a small fee. It comes with completely full features, both for podcasting and audio streaming.

Step 2. Upload your audio file. If you record your sound offline through a microphone and computer then you need to convert to the format for suitable for podcasting (MP3).

Use your favorite method to upload the audio file to web hosting server. It could be through your web hosting control panel, an FTP or SFTP program.

Audio Generator users can skip this step, but for every audio file make sure you jot down the full URL to the audio file for the next step. AudioBlogger users have the audio posted on their Blogger dashboard already.

Step 3. Blog your Podcast Show. The easiest way to publish a podcast is by blogging it through your favorite blog software. If you don’t have one, you can register at Blogger.com. Post a link to the MP3 file near the title of the post or in the Link Field. Use free service like FeedBurner to turn existing feed into podcast compatible feed if it doesn’t support podcast (the enclosure tag).

If you edit your own RSS, the enclosure tag is in the format like this:

That’s it. Now you are a podcaster. Get your voice out and be heard. Happy podcasting.

In the beginning, podcasting’s first charm was to permit individuals to circulate their own radio-type shows, but the system promptly became employed in a broad assortment of other ways. Podcasts are a rising technology that content producers and internet marketers can regard as an unconventional way to speedily deliver information and targeted content.

The technological advancement of podcasting is a fairly new technology, which equips users to rapidly and simply download multimedia files such as audio and video for convenient playback on mobile devices.

Podcasting is circulating at a hurried pace because of the fast acceptance of iPods, MP3 players, and we cannot forget cell phones. The craving of owners who long to have on demand fresh content on portable media players, satisfies the pent-up need of time management; allowing information to be listened to at the user’s convenience.

Podcasting is blowing up and the contest has been on for some time now to discover an executable business model to harness the new medium. Content producers and savvy internet marketers are intelligently relying on podcasting as a user-friendly, cost efficient new distribution channel that has the capacity to reach a large audience.

Providers and marketers have the ability to register their information with the iTunes Music Store where users have the power to sign up for access to the feeds of their chosen podcasts. A true benefit of podcasting is that listeners can sync content to their media player and take it with them to listen whenever they want to.

This alternate distribution model for delivering information in the form of portable media players lets publishers broaden the reach of Internet content to people at times when they aren’t even connected. Listeners, who are often busy with other things while listening, need audio and information that transports them to some other state of mind.

The listening to of someone’s voice can be an influential and intimate experience in which you can specifically target your listeners with whatever message you are trying to convey. As an example, you could have a never ending supply of books read aloud for elderly or visually-impaired listeners with your targeted information. With some outside of the box thinking, there’s an unlimited spectrum of what is possible in the future of podcasting.

The hurdle to the future of podcasting isn’t much different than any evolving technology; make it so that it’s simple for the audience to devour and quality content will follow. With that being said, it has implausible potential for business and forecasts to be a pertinent monetizing tool for the future.

Are you looking for a way to reach a large number of people? Are you trying to share your knowledge with the world? Do you want to increase sales for your business?  If you answered yes to any of these questions there are a few things that you can do in order to achieve your goals. But when it comes down to it there are not may options that are better than podcasting. With podcasting you have the ability to get in touch with a wide range of people without having to put out too much time or money.  And on top of all of that podcasting is quite fun as well. So why do so many people pass this up?

If you are interested in podcasting you must first know what it is all about. Generally speaking, if you are a podcaster you will pretty much have your own radio show; except in a different format. With podcasting you have the ability to allow people to listen to your broadcast via streaming audio, or they can download it and listen on a mobile device. Either way can work to your advantage.

The biggest benefit of podcasting is that you will have the ability to get in touch with millions of people. Of course, you will have to build up your base of listeners for this to be possible, but all in all if you put the time forth you will be able to reap some rewards in the end. The best way to increase your listener base is to advertise your podcast to people who would be more interested. For instance, if your new podcast is going to concentrate on search engine optimization, get in touch with the people who would be more interested in this. If you already work in this industry chances are that you have some contacts who can serve as your initial base. Then when your podcast becomes more popular it will begin to spread among the industry.

Many people use podcasting as a simple way to relieve stress and have fun. After all, almost everybody has had dreams of being a radio show host. With podcasting you have the ability to do so without much trouble at all. This sure beats having to work your way to the top, and hoping to get a job at a radio station.

Overall, there are many ways that you can use podcasting to your advantage. When it comes down to it the benefits are nearly endless, and regardless of who you are there is a good chance that you can make podcasting suit your needs. So look into what podcasting is all about, and incorporate it into your life.

The process works pretty much like radio except that the broadcast is done via mobile devices and the power of content delivery via the internet. This new form of broadcasting of information opens up tremendous opportunities for dispersion of information, entertainment and news.

Podcasting is a fairly new technology and people are building up refined applications to use this medium effectively. Advantages of Podcasting are making the proposition attractive enough for major companies to consider it a serious communication mode. RSS 2.0 is the chosen form for podcasts and newer versions of this feed system are expected soon.

Inherent advantages of podcasts are:

No need to invest in a new piece of hardware: Podcasts are easily available to all users of iPod and similar mobile .The sheer size of the iPod cult if I can call it that, is increasing at a scorching pace. All a user needs to do is choose the subscriptions which he or she would like to subscribe to and download the programmes.

New lease of live to radio programmes: Radio programmes have been revived by the new generation of podcasters. A number of old radio programmes which have had a mass following in their hey days are now being evaluated to be cast via podcasts. A huge chunk of high quality content becomes available thanks to this revival.

Can advertisers be far away? Advertisers have the ability to identify new advertising opportunities at the slightest whiff and Podcasting forums are already working hard to get the advertising industry hand in glove with the Podcasting community. Influx of advertising dollars will lend more credibility to Podcasting and this medium will be taken more seriously as well.

On demand broadcast: Podcasters and listeners rule this medium by offering a high level on-demand listening. You can use this service at the time when you want to, pretty much like video on demand but has greater success due to the low demand of bandwidth. This is probably one of the biggest advantage of Podcasting and might be the core reason for it to success phenomenally.

Your own Podcast studio and very little investment: So who are podcasters? A podcaster can be anyone who has access to the internet, a decent computer and some software knowledge. Podcasting requires very little investment by way of hardware and software. This advantage of Podcasting can thus be done by almost anyone who has an interest in it and has some content to share with the rest of the world,

Creativity is highly rewarded in the podcaster’s world: Content is king and high quality creative content is instantaneously rewarded by the Podcasting community which can be measured by the number of subscribers. Thus it is quite easy to gain overnight success if the content of the broadcast is unique and exciting.

Podcasting thus has number of benefits both the for the community within and without. A unique mass media which does not cost a lot to distribute and develop content for. Like all new technologies, the technology will have some teething issues but the force promoting it should be good enough to get the technology roaring with success in the very near future.

Podcasting continues to grow in popularity, from its early days to today. And there’s good reason for it, as the medium has become an effective way for companies to communicate with their customers and for individuals to express their creativity. The word about podcasting rapidly spread through the popular blogs of former MTV Veejay Adam Curry and other early podcasters and listeners.

Here’s an interesting fact: the blogger Doc Searls searched for how many hits Google found for the term “podcasts” on September 28, 2004. On that day, the result was 24 hits. On September 30, there were 526 hits. Then, just three days later, Google found more than 2,750. Every few days the number doubled, passing 100,000 hits by October 18 of the same year. Just one year later, Google found more than 100,000,000 hits for “podcasts.”

Only since 2004 has it been possible to find other podcasts via specified search engines. Tracking early distribution and variety of podcasts was more difficult than just tallying Google hits. In November 2004, podcasting networks started to appear on the scene with podcasters affiliating with one another. The first was the GodCast Network, followed by the Tech Podcasts Network, the Association of Music Podcasters and others.

The following year, podcasts made their way in to politics. Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards became the first national-level US politician to hold his own podcast during the election season. Within a few episodes, the show had all the features of a major podcast: a web site with subscription feeds, show notes, guest appearances by major celebrities, questions from the listening audience, reviews and discussion of books, musical interludes of podsafe (noninfringing) songs, light banter (sports and recreation talk), even limited soundseeing from his travels across the country. Later in the summer of 2005, George W. Bush became a podcaster of sorts, when the White House website added an RSS 2.0 feed to the previously downloadable files of the president’s weekly radio addresses.

By mid-2005, the medium had acquired backlash. Some experienced Internet users declared podcasting to be either a variant of blogs and mp3s, or already past its peak because of growing exposure, and/or adoption by unsavvy Internet users.

Apple, however, staked its claim on podcasts by adding podcasting to its free music software and building a directory of podcasts at its iTunes Music Store. The new iTunes could subscribe to, download and organize podcasts, which made a separate aggregator application unnecessary for many users.

While RSS has had the capacity to include audio files for a few years, only recently have entrepreneurs made the conceptual leap, taking advantage of the new power held within this communication medium. In reality, podcasters cover the gamut; some are professional broadcasters, while others are obvious amateurs.

Podcasts are usually published with associated meta information that includes descriptive data about each specific audio file. This allows listeners to make a determination of which audio items are of interest. If listeners are using a news aggregator that supports podcasting, they will automatically receive updates in their feed reader or news aggregation software when a new podcast exists for a feed that they have subscribed to.

Why is podcasting so beneficial to the subscriber?
Unlike traditional radio, with podcasting the subscriber decides what content he/she receives. Podcasting is extremely useful to the subscriber because the user can easily receive information he/she would like, and listen to it when they want. The material, once downloaded, can be listened to and viewed on wireless handhelds, allowing subscribers to utilize time on the road.

Topic-specific radio talk shows with commentaries, interviews and debates can now be heard at a time and place of the listener’s choosing. Consider the benefit of educational tutorials and foreign language instruction; lessons could be listened to during a work commute. Supplementary class lectures, step by step tutorials or walking guides are all possible using podcasting. An unlimited collection of books read aloud for elderly or visually-impaired listeners only scratch the surface of what is possible in the future of podcasting.

The fate of podcasting is in the hands of the subscribers. The subscriber can easily delete podcast feeds that do not satisfy their needs with the single tap of a button. Ultimately, the subscriber maintains control and determines what podcasts are deemed successful. This intrinsically builds in a quality control level and will ensure that the more innovative instructional and interesting podcast feeds survive.

The technology is fresh and, like the Internet, is opening doors to entrepreneurs. As podcasting evolves, users will find more creative kinds of audio content to deliver. The low barrier to entry has forced this new medium to the forefront, as businesses and individuals have really little to lose in adding podcasting as a communication channel.

In a recent networking situation a small business owner asked me an interesting question.

“Have I missed the boat with Podcasting?”

She went on to explain that some felt that the podcasting wave had crested and anyone who was going to be anybody in the world of podcasting were already doing it and anyone else that tried to join in now would just be lost in the crowd.

I blinked through several moments of silence while I gave that some thought. There is so much in her words that can spark a great conversation. What is meant by “anyone who was going to be anybody” for starters?

Okay, leaving all that behind – her question can be answered easily enough.

No, you have not missed the boat with podcasting.

Podcasting is still a young media. We haven’t fully tapped its potential. There will be many more beautiful-young, cranky-old and quirky-offensive podcasting stars born in the months and years to come. We’ll read about them on blogs and forums and see their faces in the iTunes Music Store Directory. It is truly not too late for someone to become somebody in the world of podcasting.

Sure, only a tiny percentage of podcasters will make it to the big time. But does that mean that everyone else is wasting their time? Not at all, in fact most people who should be looking into podcasting can be looking at it from a fresh perspective and not even think of podcasting as the chance to be the next big media sensation.

Podcasting is simply making media content available via RSS – and when you think of it that way, you realize that you should be podcasting in one way or another sooner or later.

Here are three reasons why.

1. Your Market Wants It

Your market wants to choose how they will consume your content. If you are writing articles for your website or for distribution, there are many in your target market who would prefer to listen to that article than stop to read it.

I multitask. I would like to keep an eye on new articles being written by more of my favorite people – but I don’t have all day to sit and read. I do however have two ears and can easily give one over to listening to an audio feed of articles that I have chosen to monitor.

2. Competitors Want It

Other website owners, newsletter editors and podcasters who reach your desired market would enjoy having more audio and video content to choose for inclusion on their projects. Someday we will be visiting Audio Directories and Video Directories to find media content for inclusion in our podcast or blog the same way that we visit Article Directories today.

You may never host a podcast that reaches 100,000 people – but if you create segments of content that other podcasters can grab and use (giving you appropriate credit) you may just end up reaching 100,000 people after all.

3. You Want It

You want to be making the best use possible of the internet and that means embracing all available technologies. You don’t have to launch a podcast ‘radio show’. You can simply be podcasting the content you already have. Think about your seminar audios, articles, special reports, ebooks, etc.

If you do love the radio show format, go ahead and do that. But also consider how you can implement podcasting into your business in other ways as well.

Using audio and offer an RSS feed for your content is extremely simple. You can use an all in one solution like Audio Acrobat which allows you to create audios by computer microphone, telephone or by uploading your own recording files; and then lets you create a quick and easy podcast feed of your content.

Now that you have a fresh new view of podcasting, what are you waiting for?

Now, the most important thing to remember in this is that Braincast currently has a message limit of 3 minutes, which means that your audio recordings will be short. For full blown Podcasts that last for more than 3 minutes, this method isn’t the greatest but for short audio clips that accompany other materials on your blog, this method is absolutely great!

Step 1: Join Braincast

Step 2: Setup Braincast to recognize the phone numbers that you will call from. Braincast links your phone number to your account so that everytime you call and leave yourself a message you messages are stored under your specific account.

Step 3: Call the designated number that Braincast assigns you from the phone number that you configured and begin leaving your message. At this point, your message is obviously the audio clip that you want to post the the web later.

Step 4: Once your message is recorded, log into your Braincast account and retrieve the Wav file for your Podcast.

Step 5: Most people want their Podcasts to be in MP3 format, which Braincast is not programmed to do. To convert the file to an MP3 file, I suggest you go to http://www.media-convert.com/ and use the online conversation tool. This site will take any Wav file you give it, process it, and give you back and MP3 file to download.

Step 6: Post your new MP3 file to the web like you normally would. And you’re all done! I haven’t tried other tricks like conference calling the BrainCast recording so that I can interview someone, but there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t work. 3 minutes is short for a Podcast, but it’s plenty of time to get a message out when on the road or waiting in line at the store. Enjoy!
